Squiggle & Heart No. 1 Revisited

For the next 6 weeks, my Tuesdays will be exceptionally busy with the roll out of the new season of my TV show, which will make rendering new Wednesday cartoons exceptionally difficult. So, I thought I would give myself some grace, and spend the next few weeks revisiting where the cartoon started.

Released October 1, 2022, the first Squiggle & Heart emerged from noticing the hypocrisy of my inner critic matching the hypocrisy of a certain political party during the midterm voting season. (Not that the other(s) don’t have their own flawed contradictions [if they didn’t I wouldn’t have been losing sleep over November 2024 for months now]).

I knew for some reason I wanted to make an exceptionally basic cartoon, but it’s only once I started expanding the work into a series that I realized what a gift I’d given myself. The almost childlike simplicity of the drawing structure for these has allowed me to explore complex topics in a way that I think moves beyond anything I could either write or draw independently of one another.
