Practice.
A question appeared in my journal Friday morning: how do you engage with kindness in an environment where it will not be received? I was thinking about all the shouting that is happening right now, literal and metaphoric, as humanity does and does not grapple with how to unturn a wheel of violence.
I typed that last sentence and then proceeded to stare at the screen for 15 minutes. Because, of course, I personally cannot unturn this wheel - none of us can - and in sitting with that feeling, no words arise. This awful lathe is spinning on a motor of history, powered by those who refuse to sit with the gaping wound of their own agony, rounding humanity into yet another war.
