Kid Prompts, Season 2 Episode 5: Gavin
This week’s kid, Gavin, had so many amazing things to say, so much great artwork, and is such a Renaissance man, I had to blow straight through my “under 7 minutes” boundary. I just couldn’t cut any more of his brilliance.
I think “under 10 minutes” is a rounder boundary any way, right?
Gavin is 8 years old, and wanted to see, "Two monkeys in a tree. Drinking banana smoothies and I (Gavin)am doing backflips in the forest with them."
In particular, the things Gavin has to say about communication absolutely warmed my heart. I’m thinking a lot about Fred Rogers right now. If you don’t know, March 6th is Protect Public Media Day. Since the Era of Screens began, Public Media and educational television has been absolutely vital in supporting kind, thoughtful, compassionate children. March 14th Congress is set to determine the future of Public Media. As a host of a PBS television show myself and as a devotee to Fred Rogers’ ethos of quiet, empathetic content creation, I pray that the country does the right thing and supports this priceless resource.
In the meantime, consider donating to your local PBS affiliate network. I am partial to WGBH in Massachusetts, and ALL ARTS / WNET in New York, but your local affiliate is just as awesome!
