Kid Prompts and Cool Air
Yesterday the heat finally broke (temporarily) in Massachusetts, after 4 straight days of over-95. I genuinely don’t understand how people still “look forward to summer.” To me it shouts fire season, flood season, drought season, global climate collapse, and discomfort. But, with discomfort, if you remember to pay attention, comes the sweet, sweet appreciation of its relief when it arrives. The absolute gift of yesterday’s below-75-degree day here, and today’s full on need for a sweatshirt felt so good, it made me wonder if the great benefit of this disastrous time in history, is a complex lesson in the equanimity that comes with the swings.
For now, for your dose of joy whatever your weather today, here is my latest kid prompt. I’ve been creating rules for myself as I go with these without really knowing it: lots of color, fill the page, no more than one false start. If you flip your paper over, that’s it you gotta just keep going. I do feel like these may evolve into some sort of something - gallery show? Interview series? Book? Who knows. For now, they’re just a great way to fill a lot of open space and connect with some kids’ minds.
