Intermission...
We’re going to take a brief, hopefully only week-long pause on Squiggle & Heart so that I can enjoy having COVID. Sigh.
Today I sublimated my problems into art like my therapist told me to with this drawing:
I have affectionately titled it, “This Bitch.” I thought I could do two drawings in a day and bang out a Squiggle & Heart, but my body is telling me to lie down instead.
Stay safe out there, folks. This disease is still killing around 250 people a week in the United States. And though I, too, have gotten quite more lax with my mask wearing, it’s still wreaking havoc, and I am very concerned about long term effects.
On the bright side, I am pretty proud of the equanimity I am finding. Firstly, rest is always helpful and usually comes - even if forced - when you need it. Secondly, though I had to forgo a well-paying little gig I had booked for this weekend, I was able to recommend a list of friends for that job, and I always love passing work along. Thirdly, this may give me a tiny bit of insurance (new variants notwithstanding) for not getting it on my trip abroad this summer.
And, most gratefully: I am safe, dry, warm, sheltered, fed, have clean water, am financially comfortable, live in New York City where anything can be delivered, and foremost am not currently under threat of the imminent destruction of my home, my family, and everything in it through the greed and violence of war. For now.
I did Tonglen this morning for everyone with COVID, and in particular anyone who is in a more dire financial, physical, or emotional state than I am. Maybe take a sec to do so as well - the world could use some “sending and taking” right now.
Love to all, and Squiggle & Heart will be back next week!
