I had big plans for this first Saturday article and artwork to be about Professor Brian Herrera.

Brian, who was so kind to recommend me to his Substack community yesterday, is a dear friend who came into my life through my first CastAndLoose Live! show at Joe's Pub at the Public Theater in 2014. He has played an integral role in my career in many ways, but especially as I start to bridge my way into the academic world, and explore that side of my professional life.

But I think Brian will forgive me if I, instead, rant about the broken system of health insurance in this country, after having received in the mail today a particularly absurd claim denial for my annual mammogram.
